Natural Hair Care

By Helen Wang

Natural Hair Care for normal hair

Not too oily, not too dry, not to thick or thin nor damaged from over processing.

Use a moisturizing shampoo to wash your hair daily, TIGI Bedhead moisture maniac shampoo or better and a finishing rinse or light conditioner like TIGI Bedhead moisture maniac conditioner.

If you spend a lot of time under the sun or lead an active lifestyle, you should use a clarifying shampoo once a month.

Natural hair care for oily hair:

If your hair seems to over produce oil and your roots just seem greasy you , then you have oily hair. It is recommended that you use a shampoo for oily hair and concentrate on the scalp.

You don't necessarily have to thoroughly wash your hair from roots to ends every day.

You can instead scrub the scalp gently with the shampoo and when you rinse your hair, both the shaft and ends will be washed by the suds cascading over it.

Natural hair care for dry hair:

People with dry hair should avoid using overly hot dryers and heat-styling implements. When you're going to expose to the sun or wind for a long while, do wear a hat or scarf.

Avoid washing your hair every day -- unless you have an oily scalp. Just shampoo often enough to remove dirt and buildup, say about two or three times a week.

Whenever you wash your hair, do use shampoos and conditioners that contain humectants. Leave the conditioner on your hair as long as possible and do a deep conditioning treatment weekly.

Long Hair Care:

People with long hair need to treat it with special care or it can get straw-like. Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner (on ends only) every other day. Rinse with water alone on off days.

Avoid heat-styling (blow-drying, flat-ironing) as often as possible, but if you must, prep hair with a protective spray, such as Charles Worthington Results Stay Cool Spray, first.

Tip: When you're at the beach, spread some of the sunscreen you use on your body through your hair so that it doesn't dry out and get crispy.

Fine/Limp Hair:

If your hair seems thin, straight and flat you may have fine/limp hair. You should use a volumizing shampoo and every other day use a light conditioner or finishing rinse, only on the ends.

Once a week, especially if you use a lot of styling products, use a clarifying shampoo. You can also try having your hair professionally colored to add volume.

Natural Hair Care for thick/coarse hair

If your hair feels rough and is pretty thick, resembling horse hair you may have thick/coarse hair. You should use a moisturizing shampoo like TIGI Bedhead moisture maniac and an instant conditioner.

Use a clarifying shampoo about once a week in addition to a heavier conditioner or protein pack for chemically processed hair. About once a month, use a protein pack left on for about 30 minutes.

When washing and drying your hair do take care to prevent tangles and damage. Do not wash and towel dry your hair too vigorously else you'll damage your hair before you even begin to style! Use your finger tips to gently rub your scalp. Don't scrub.

To dry your hair pat and squeeze dry with a towel. Use only appropriate brush type with rounded ends that is suitable for your hair length. Brush your hair gently only when it is necessary.
