Dandruff
Treatment
By Helen Wang
Millions of people suffer from this embarrassing problem at
some point of their life. What is the appropriate dandruff
treatment for this condition which is considered a chronic
scalp disorder?
The main symptom of dandruff is an itchy, flaky
scalp. Those who have dandruff, will likely notice
excessive white flakes on their hair or on their shirt
throughout the day.
With a few helpful tips, you can control your
condition or else it can be humiliating and
annoying.
The easiest dandruff treatment is to control
it
To control it, simply take a few behavioral steps.
Researchers have found dandruff among other conditions can be
triggered by stress.
If you are experiencing dandruff, take a look at your life
and your schedule. If you can do anything in your
schedule to lessen your stress load, then by all
means, do so.
Reducing your stress will most likely help improve dandruff
condition, and at the same time you will probably feel better
as a whole.
Dandruff Treatment Shampoos
For those with mild dandruff, the simple dandruff treatment
answer to your problem may simply be finding a good
shampoo. There are many dandruff shampoos on the
market that are great at controlling mild dandruff.
Just pick one up at your favorite and reputable store. Try
it for at least 2 weeks and if you see no improvement, try
another variety.
If you still see no improvement with the second dandruff
shampoo, try a shampoo with a tar extract in it as this variety
is particularly helpful to dry scalp
conditions.
However, they don't have the pleasant smell of regular
shampoos, but they will get the job done. Tar shampoos for
dandruff treatment are also a bit more expensive, but
they are worth the extra cost.
Some people may think that dandruff occurs because they
shampoo their hair too often. Well, these people are just
confused about dandruff. In fact, the opposite is true however,
especially if your scalp is oily.
To remove any excess oil, oily scalps need to be
shampooed often. Dandruff problem often get worse due
to excess oil. Be sure to use your dandruff shampoo when you
wash your hair and you will see a great improvement.
One of the likely causes for oily scalp is the use of
styling products. They tend to build up on your scalp, causing
the scalp to produce excess oil.
Waxes, hair spray, mousse, and gel are all to
blame in this case. Try cutting back on your usage of
these products if you are experiencing dandruff.
You could even be having an allergic reaction to these
products that is taking a form similar to dandruff.
Another thing that may trigger dandruff is taking
really hot showers. If you have any type of skin
problem, you should keep your showers moderate in
temperature.
Hot water tends to cause the body to dry out or produce more
oil to compensate, which are two problems associated
with dandruff.
Researchers have found that natural sunlight may be
good for dandruff. However, they also warn that you
should still avoid spending too long a time under the sun due
to its cancerous waves.
You should simply spend short amounts of time with your
scalp getting exposure. Besides helping your dandruff
condition, sunlight also provide the Vitamin D your body needs
to keep you happy.
What if none of these dandruff treatment tips
help?
There are a few things you can do for an appropriate
dandruff
treatment. First, schedule a visit with your
general practitioner. The doctor will diagnose your
condition and may even prescribe a prescription dandruff
treatment for you.
The doctor will likely only do so if your dandruff
is moderate or severe. In most cases, the prescription
is a shampoo or a scalp wash.
However, your doctor may decide to refer you to a
dermatologist. The dermatologist will likely diagnosis you with
dandruff and may or may not take a sample.
If sample is taken, it may be sent the a laboratory to
confirm you have dandruff instead of an allergic reaction to
something else.
Dandruff is not a preventable disorder, so if you have
dandruff, don't worry about trying to prevent it. Instead you
should focus on controlling it.
There are many things you can make a part of your
daily habits that will help you control your
dandruff.
Be sure to ask and consult your doctor, if you have
questions, as they can confirm that it is actually dandruff you
are dealing with.
